The first state budget since 2018 has been signed by Governor Roy Cooper. Both the House and Senate previously approved the $25.9 billion plan with bi-partisan support and input. Governor Cooper said on Tuesday that he would sign the long-overdue budget, which he called "imperfect," saying it included much-needed spending on education and infrastructure. Read MoreOn August 12th, the North Carolina House passed its version of the state budget with a Republican veto-proof majority after the Senate’s version of the budget passed earlier in June. The final House vote was 72-41. It's now possible that a state budget could be in place by Labor Day, once it reaches Governor Cooper's desk.
"It's the largest budget in the state's history. This budget is transformative," said Rep. Dean Arp, a Republican from Union County.

After serving a single term as the District 37 Representative, Sydney Batch has been appointed to replace Senator Sam Searcy in District 17. James Roberson, the current Mayor of Knightdale, has also been appointed to replace Rep. Darren Jackson, the former House Minority Leader, as he joins the Court of Appeals.
